Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing, PA

A day of theological exploration…

Join theologians, youth, seminarian, and other leaders throughout the church for a day of theological exploration at TEY’s Troubling the Water Event. In partnership with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the ELCA, Theological Education with Youth (a joint ministry of Gettysburg and Philadelphia Seminaries) brings this day of conversation, worship and discovery to Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing, PA. (For a sample schedule of the day click here)

A day of worship & conversation…

For youth in the 9th or 10th grade, Troubling the Water explores the baptismal promise “to serve all people, following the example of Jesus”. The day is a combination of small group experiences, where young theologians will dive into the Word with seminarian small group leaders, large group experiences where seminary faculty and other teachers of the church will help explore what it means to be a theologian in the world, and worship, where youth and adults will come together to engage in the highest act of theology. Even adult participants will have an opportunity to engage in their own small group and be a part of the communal practice of theology!

An invitation into the journey…

Troubling the Water is an event for young theologians in your congregation that are closing in on confirmation or have just recently confirmed (9th or 10th grade), that challenges them to continue the practice of theological exploration they have been brought into. For those youth who desire to dive deeper into the waters of faith and for congregations who look to inspire and lift up young leaders, Troubling the Water is a can’t miss experience!

Our Theologians…

Troubling the Water is a daylong experience of collaborative theology, and our guides for this day include:

The Rev Dr J. Jayakiran Sebastian is a Presbyter of the Church of South India, and currently H. George Anderson Professor of Mission and Culture and Director of the Multicultural Mission Resource Center at The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. He has been Professor in the Department of Theology and Ethics at the United Theological College, Bangalore, India. He comes from Bangalore, and following his theological training at the United Theological College, he served both rural and urban pastorates of the Karnataka Central Diocese of the Church of South India and even after becoming a theological teacher continued to be associated with the pastoral ministry by serving as an Associate Presbyter in churches where the Diocese needed him.
